The gasification of the heavy hydrocarbons provided by the refinery, through the IGCC technology, stands for the best match between the necessity to produce large quantities of electricity and the necessity to minimize the deriving environmental impact. In fact emissions to atmosphere (including noise) are minimal, remarkably lower than the limits fixed by the environmental laws. The synergy with the gasification has further allowed to sensibly reduce emissions of pollutants from the Sarroch industrial site such as sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are among the main components of acid rains and smog.
The need of big quantities of water, typical of the electric power plants of this size, is totally fulfilled by the desalination of sea water, without drawing on the Sardinia limited and precious water resources.
The Saras Environmental & Safety Report (herewith attached) contains the readings of the Sarlux IGCC Plant as well.
Sarlux is another confirmation of how the respect for the environment is of paramount importance for the Saras Group.
